F.A.Q. about Bowen

What is The Bowen Technique?

The Bowen Technique is a long lasting, dynamic remedial therapy, which can successfully ease your physical agony, emotional pain and stress / tension related problems. Bowen technique holistic therapy treats your whole body, working on physical, chemical, emotional, mental and energy levels. It stimulates your system to rebalance itself, thereby triggering the natural healing and pain relief capabilities of your body. Bowen treatment complementary medicine is suitable for all ages, from small children upwards.

The Bowen Technique is a gentle, non invasive, hands-on complementary therapy. I will select the appropriate sequence of precise, subtle moves, which involve me making a rolling action over your muscles, soft tissues, tendons and ligaments with my fingers and thumbs. The Bowen Technique works on areas close to your acupuncture / meridian points to alleviate your suffering. Bowen Technique remedial therapy is not a form of massage, manipulation or acupuncture as no pressure, rubbing or needles are involved. Rest periods between moves will enable your body to absorb the benefits of the holistic therapy treatment and allow your nervous system to begin taking action towards recovery.

How is The Bowen Technique Different From Chiropractic, Osteopathy & Physiotherapy?
Osteopaths and chiropractors diagnose the problem and treat it through adjustments, pulls or cracking of joints to realign the structure of your body. The therapist will take a detailed case history. Bowen Technique is a holistic therapy which works on your body as a whole unit to promote natural recovery, rather than focusing on treating a specific condition.

What is The History Of The Bowen Technique?
Tom Bowen originator of Bowen TherapyBowen treatment is named after its developer Tom Bowen, who pioneered the technique during the 1950’s in Australia. Having served in World War II, Bowen was interested in relieving human suffering. Bowen believed that his holistic therapy technique facilitated a spectacular return to full health for his patients, by removing negative energy from their bodies, coupled with increased blood flow and lymphatic drainage. Bowen Technique alternative therapy has been established in England since the early 1990’s.
